PANEL FILTERS
School heating and cooling equipment is normally equipped with panel air filters. Their main function is to prevent dust and dirt carried from the outside by the make-up air, from causing a malfunction of the equipment in which they are installed.

While they do a creditable job of removing the pollutants they are designed to trap, they remove only the larger particles - 10% or less of all of the contaminants in the air.

The introduction of large amounts of outdoor air into a school building may exacerbate instead of alleviating the problem.
